Privacy Policy

TrueScope is an independent renovation cost-intelligence platform. We built it to give homeowners, contractors, and realtors an honest read on what renovations actually cost — and that mission only works if you can trust how we handle your information. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and what we will never do with it.

1. Who we are

TrueScope LLC (“TrueScope,” “we,” “us”) is an independent data platform based in Boston, Massachusetts. We are not a contractor, a contractor network, a lead-generation service, or a party to any agreement between a homeowner and a contractor. Our benchmarks draw on real building-permit data, our proprietary database of executed renovation contracts, and current market conditions.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account information. When you create an account, our authentication provider (Clerk) collects your name and email address — including through Google sign-in if you choose it.
• Waitlist and contact details. If you join a waitlist or contact us, we collect your email address and the type of user you are (homeowner, contractor, or realtor).
• Documents you upload. When you use the Bid Analyzer, you upload a contractor proposal so we can analyze it. We retain the information extracted from it — including line items, costs, the property address, and the contractor and business details named in the proposal. See Section 3 for exactly how that information is handled and protected.
• Property address. To compare a project against nearby work, we collect the property address associated with a proposal or research request.

Information we collect automatically

• Usage and device data. Standard web-server and analytics data such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and timestamps.
• Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies to keep you signed in (via Clerk) and to operate the site. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work without them.

3. How we handle uploaded proposals

This is the part people care about most, so we want to be precise.

• To read a proposal, we send the document to our AI processing provider (Anthropic) to extract its structure — line items, trades, quantities, and costs.
• We retain the extracted information from a proposal — its line items, trades, quantities, and costs, the property address, and the contractor and business details named in the document. We keep this information to build and improve our neighborhood benchmarks, and to verify real market outcomes by comparing proposals against public building-permit records over time. This outcome verification is also what supports our independent, data-earned contractor certification.
• This information is stored securely and used only internally. It is never displayed publicly, never attached to any benchmark result shown to another user, never sold, and never used to route a homeowner to a contractor or a contractor to a homeowner.
• We do not publish your proposal, and we do not share the document you uploaded with other users or with third parties for their own marketing.

4. How we use information

• To generate cost benchmarks and verdicts for your project.
• To operate, secure, and improve the platform — including improving the accuracy of our analysis.
• To create and manage your account and respond to your requests.
• To send service-related messages and, where you have opted in, product updates.
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

5. What we never do

Our neutrality is the product. We do not:

• Sell your personal information.
• Route you to specific contractors or market your project to contractors.
• Share your uploaded proposals with third parties for their marketing.
• Take sides for or against any homeowner or contractor.

6. Service providers

We rely on a small set of trusted providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and only as needed to run the service:

• Clerk — authentication and account management.
• Supabase — database hosting and storage.
• Anthropic — AI processing of uploaded documents.
• Google — optional sign-in (OAuth).
• GoDaddy — web hosting.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or in connection with a business transfer.

7. Data retention

We retain the information extracted from proposals — line items, costs, property addresses, and the contractor and business details named in them — for as long as it is useful to maintain our benchmarks and verify market outcomes, which is a core part of the service. We keep this information secure and access-controlled, and we do not expose it publicly. If you believe we hold information about you or your business and you would like to access it or request its deletion, contact us (see Section 8) and we will respond consistent with applicable law.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or limit the use of your personal information, and to opt out of certain processing. To exercise any of these, email us at hello@truescopeco.com and we will respond as required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

9. Security

We protect information using encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while we work hard to safeguard your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

TrueScope is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
